Space Center Houston

Houston, sometimes known as “Space City,” has a strong history of involvement in the country’s space program. The city is home to NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, and Space Center Houston is the official visitor’s center for the Johnson Space Center.

At Space Center Houston, you can enjoy many interactive exhibits, including a shuttle simulator. You can even see moon rocks and view presentations on NASA’s space flight program. This is one of the top things to do in the Houston area, so it should definitely be on your list, especially if you enjoy learning about space, or you have a junior astronaut in your household.

Downtown Aquarium

The Downtown Aquarium in Houston is a treat for both kids and adults. With two restaurants and a bar, you can spend a whole day checking out the many exhibits at the aquarium and then enjoy a meal and drinks afterward. Kids will love the rides at the aquarium, including the Shark Voyage train ride.

Animal exhibits include the Rainforest, Gulf of Mexico, Stingray Reef, and Louisian Swamp, among others. If you are bringing kids along, there are also fun programs for them to enjoy, like Marine Biologist for a Day and Zoologist for a Day.

Houston Museum of Natural Science

If you are a museum person who can spend a whole Saturday wandering the exhibits of a good museum, then the Houston Museum of Natural Science is for you. This is another top attraction in the city, and definitely a good item to add to your weekend list of activities. 

There are so many attractions to enjoy at the museum, including a planetarium, space station models, and collection of minerals. Dino lovers will also love the Hall of Paleontology, which includes over 50 large skeletons, including a T-rex. You can also visit the Cockrell Butterfly Conservatory where butterflies fly around and sometimes even land on visitors.
